Fito Blanko - By My Side (Video Clip)

Twenty-two (22) year old Urban-Latino artist - Fito Blanko - has been making waves in Canada, the U.S, Europe and South and Central America. Armed with talent, business savvy, and his charismatic personality, Fito is quickly making a name for himself in the exploding Urban Latino scene. Fito grew up adorned by Latin music, particularly the two most popular sounds from Panama: salsa and what was then called Spanish reggae. In the last decade, “Reggaeton” (Spanish Reggae) has become the new genre of urban dance music in Panama and Puerto Rico; now spreading to other parts of the world, most recently to North America. Reggaeton is derived from Jamaican reggae and is heavily influenced by American hip-hop culture, yet remains distinctly Latin. By the age of 14, Fito (born Roberto E. Testa) was already writing his own lyrics in both English and Spanish. He developed a natural and raw method of flowing with a Latino attitude, creating a signature sound and image.
After years of hard work writing and performing, Fito got a big break in the summer of 2003 when he was asked to collaborate with Panamanian Grammy nominee: “Los Rabanes”. This opened the flood gates to many opportunities to showcase his talent locally and internationally. That same summer, two of Fito’s tracks had been serviced to the American-Hispanic DJ Pool Latinos Unidos. Ninety (90) percent of the DJ’s added these tracks to their play lists causing them both to chart in the Top 25 of their Hip-Hop/Reggae Chart in the summer of 2003. Subsequently a third track had been serviced, “Sobeteo”, which also reached the Top 25. During this time Fito was booked for an appearance on one of the most popular shows in the U.S and Latin America: “The Roof” (Mun2 - with an audience of over 25 million people). He not only was booked again but was offered a deal to be a VJ for one of the shows. Fito had made him self known to Latin music insiders and began planning the release of his debut album. Following the release of his album produced by Sensei “Higher Level” on July 27, 2004 – Fito became a Latin-Canadian luminary. His first single “Me Voy a Marchar” was added to the U.S.’s Hit TV show soundtrack – Jamz Volume 3 Compilation and the video for “Me Voy a Marchar” Directed by Marlon Pena (known for music videos directed for Daddy Yankee), made heavy rotation on Mun2, Telemundo, MTV Latino and HTV. Fito’s second single; “By My Side” grounded him in the Canadian mainstream music market. “By My Side” hit #1 on Toronto’s hit music station Z103.5, was placed on Canada’s Reggae 2005 compilation, and was also picked up for Japan’s #1 reggae compilation “Street vibe 2005”. During the summer of 2005, “By My Side” was #3 in the Canadian Artists Chart (Cheer DJ POOL). “By My Side” was the first single by a Latin Artist to chart in all Major Record Pools in Canada making it a top 40 hit and was the obvious pick for a second single. The Video for “By My Side” also hit heavy rotation on Much Music, MTV 2, Much Vibe, Worldbeat, HTV, Mun2, and was part of the July Urban video loop for Footlocker & Athlete’s World. This Media attention landed Fito an interview on the Much More Music’s Hit Show “Clip Trip” and the opportunity to close the biggest televised Latin event in Canada “TLN’s Latin FEST”. Since then Fito has appeared in such print media as Urban Latino Magazine (NYC), People Magazine (en Español), Billboard magazine (U.S) Sept 24th issue, and countless other National and International magazines and newspapers. In the past year Fito has been keeping busy performing in places such as New York, Miami, Vancouver, Orlando, Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, Ottawa and Edmonton.

Fito Blanko’s appeal goes beyond a niche of Reggaeton enthusiasts, to attracting a mainstream pop/dance audience. This is only the beginning for this rising bilingual Latin star. His love for music is apparent to all who know him and his strive for excellence has been the key to his success. With the help of those who have been with him along the way, this young talent is bound to succeed. Fito Blanko is a new face and with a new sound is currently hitting hard in North America and soon Worldwide.
